About This Game Z. Year One is a crowdfunded zombie card game brought to life by indie developer Downward Viral and 1,414 Kickstarter backers.NEW UPDATES: Since release, fans have provided lots of great feedback, with one of the most requested features being a more thorough tutorial/training system for new players. Basically it's the Fyre Festival of games.. I Fricken LOVE this game. I've been watching the developer streams for some time, and following the project for longer. I quite like the ambience and the sound effects. It makes it a little bit more 'real', as it were. I got a chance to really sit down and play when I was at GenCon 2016. It took me just a bit to pick it up and understand it, but it is honestly very clear once you get going. You are in for a big challenge if you play as a survivor -- even if you are almost certain to lose, the game can turn around! :) No single game play is like another, even in these early stages of Dev. I'm looking forward to see how this keeps evolving. I could not recommend this game more.. I let this game simmer and cook awhile waiting for updates, knowing it has awesome potential and could be really good if cared for with some quality of life stuff. The updates are coming now, and I'm enjoying myself with the undead again. Loving this game. It has style, tactics, variety, and awesome moments. Keep em coming!. Great game, great artwork. Easy to play, hard to master.. The concept for the game is solid, but the execution is troublesome.Of course it's been said before that there is no tutorial. You will just lose a bunch of game until you catch up. Even the in-game help is only partly correct and has omissions. Certain powers are simply not explained. Even when overring over some cards, you get the explanation for another power instead (agile instead of dodge, terrify and siphon not explained, etc.)Progression is a lie. Some cards and game mode are locked behind hours of repetitive gameplay. Leveling gives you booster, but you cannot use these cards anywhere other than Hardcode mode (unlocked at level 20) and they are all single use (removed from your collection after one game).Add to that random game breaking bug (cannot end turn), no gameplay options (faster animation) or skip button for the end phase (Fallen can gain more fury per turn for excess fury, but you have to click manually hundreds of time, per turn, if the game gets too long).Multiple bugs were only apparent after 3 hours of gameplay, so outside the refund windows.
